Reconstructive Pediatric Plastic Surgeon in NJ

Accidents and unforeseen trauma can happen at any moment, and when it comes to your child, it is best to be prepared for the unexpected. Severe injuries require a visit to the emergency room to receive immediate care. However, emergency room service does not often address the aesthetic aspects of the injury.  Often times the services of a specialized pediatric plastic surgeon is requested by either the child’s family or the emergency room physician.

Dr. Boris Volshteyn provides pediatric services to reduce the appearance of scars and other visible consequences of injury. Our board-certified plastic surgeon at Atlantic Surgical Associates couples his skill with his microsurgery sub-specialty to produce results that keep young patients healthy and feeling confident. With the use of modern surgical techniques, our doctor does everything he can to meet patient and parent expectations when faced with trauma.

Comprehensive Care

Dr. Volshteyn performs a variety of reconstructive surgeries to treat children who have experienced a traumatic injury or injuries. Our West Long Branch doctor handles each young patient’s case uniquely, as everyone deserves personalized care. Our surgeon takes a creative approach, ensuring that the outcome allows your child to maintain healthy development. The following are a few instances why a young patient might request our services in the emergency room or visit our office to receive pediatric care:

Lacerations are wounds that can happen anywhere on your child’s body. While this type of injury mostly affects the skin, it can also impact surrounding tendons, nerves, blood vessels, and bones. Dr. Volshteyn addresses lacerations with special care utilizing his extensive training in both plastic and microsurgery.  This includes gently handling the tissue and surrounding structures with special attention to anatomy in order to allow the best scar possible.

Dog Bites are handled differently by Dr. Volshteyn than the standard methods.  HIs special method includes cleaning of the wound, antibiotics, and gentle handling of the tissue in order to prevent or reduce excessive scarring.  He has been specially trained with unique skills to handle dog bite injuries.

Facial Fractures can happen after many situations, including sports-related injuries or falls, and it is important to take care of them both immediately and properly. For children, it is important to seek immediate medical attention if a facial fracture is suspected. For an injury like a broken or fractured nose, swelling, bruising around the eyes, and bleeding from the nose are normal. We diagnose facial injuries by performing a thorough examination, reviewing your child’s medical history, and conducting any necessary diagnostic imaging such as CT or MRI scans.  Treatment for this kind of trauma should be completed within seven to fourteen days to promote optimal recovery.

Hand injuries, depending on the severity, are sometimes treated with titanium plates and screws for adults. Children need more specialized care to make sure the treatment and recovery does not interfere with their growth and development. Our primary method to address hand injuries is to externally splint the area, pin the site with temporaries for approximately 4 weeks before removing the temporary sutures or pins.

We make sure to include our young patients as participants in their own treatment, to ensure they understand what is going on and how they can aid in their own recovery.

Every member of our team is a parent and we understand how important it is to receive the best care, both physically and emotionally, for our children.  Our West Long Branch staff enjoys helping young patients recover with the purpose of achieving the best possible outcome.
