A new laser skin rejuvenation and treatment system designed to improve skin quality in as little as one session is now available at Sierra Plastic Surgery.
The Matrix CO2 Laser System is an American-maid fractional CO2 skin resurfacing laser. Based in Texas, Sandstone Medical has reviewed and analyzed numerous laser treatment systems on the market with a goal of making the laser better, more precise and more affordable to the consumer.
Several years ago they came out with Matrix CO2 Laser System. We have followed this company along with other leaders in laser technology for several years prior to investing into a new laser system. We believe we selected truly the optimal system on the market today.
For years plastic surgeons and cosmetic physicians have known that CO2 laser is the best laser for overall skin rejuvenation and remodeling of deep collagen. It is still considered to be a gold standard in skin rejuvenation.
However, in the 80th we have learned that traditional CO2 ablative laser treatment even though very effective on skin wrinkles, may also result in prolonged skin healing, redness and permanent skin bleaching. Also traditional ablative CO2 laser cannot be used on necks, chest and other areas of skin outside the face due to high risk of scarring.
Matrix Fractional CO² laser optimizes traditional CO² treatments by introducing MicroAblative Columns (MACs) into the tissue while preserving untreated skin in-between spots. This promotes more rapid re-epitheliazation and long-term collagen remodeling while offering the patient improved comfort level and convenience that approaches non-ablative resurfacing.
This laser system allows adjustment of laser power from a very light and gentle setting to the full depth skin remodeling setting. It is quicker, more precise, more powerful and more gentle then some other systems on the market.
When it comes to aging skin, all wrinkles, blemishes, and irregularities are not created equally. Some wrinkles are caused by a loss of supporting tissue and gravity, while others are "dynamic" — created by laughing, smiling, talking and other repetitive motions. Some blemishes are right on the surface, while others are born deeper into the skin's layers. Skin can have irregular pigmentation, freckles, moles, pre-cancerous growths, broken capillaries. The list goes on and on, but despite all of the variables, one thing is for certain: people want younger looking skin and that usually means a smoother surface with even pigmentation and an absence of pocks, marks, and spots.
There are several types of lasers available for Laser Skin Resurfacing. Dr. Volshteyn will discuss the laser-treatment available to you for your skin needs during your consultation. Most Laser Skin Resurfacing treatments are done on an out-patient basis. You may have local anesthesia and a light sedative, especially if you are having a more aggressive treatment or having a large area treated.
The laser beam is passed once or twice over the skin until the correct depth and density has been reached. The skin is literally vaporized, minimizing bleeding that is often associated with other forms of skin resurfacing. Most treatments last between twenty minutes and one hour.
After the treatment your skin may be dressed with a protective ointment and bandaged and you will be instructed on how to care for your post-treatment skin. Once the needed skin layers are removed, the treated area will look red and inflamed. Depending on the depth of your treatment and your recovery time availability, this usually lasts about 3 to 10 days, with new skin appearing around the same time.
This new skin will look pink for several weeks to a couple of months - this is normal and just part of the healing process. Often, the skin is cleansed twice a day and special ointments are applied. New skin is especially vulnerable to the sun. It is extremely important that the skin is diligently protected with sunscreen for a minimum of six months after the treatment.
Lighter skin responds better to Matrix Laser Skin Resurfacing. All procedures come with some level of risks and Laser Skin Resurfacing complications include burns, swelling and skin unevenness, but these rarely happen when administered by a licensed physician.
Am I a Good Candidate?
Matrix CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing is very effective in removing or minimizing wrinkles, fine lines, and other skin irregularities. Matrix CO2 Laser system is designed to produce the same or greater degree of improvement in one session as some other lasers in three to six.
People with dark or olive skin may experience uneven skin pigmentation following Matrix CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing. For those patients we offer Whisper Erbium, Fraxel Laser or FeatherPeel combination laser treatments.
It is important that people undergoing Laser Skin Resurfacing meet the following criteria:
no history of severe sun burns;
not taking Accutane in the 12 months before the treatment;
no fever blister, cold sore, or active herpes outbreak;
no history of keloid scarring;
lighter skin color;
Laser Skin Resurfacing is very effective in
reducing dynamic wrinkles and fine lines,
smoothing out skin and
reducing the appearance of sun damage, blemishes, marks,
reducing scars and age spots,
uneven pigmentation and blotchiness of skin color,
skin pore reduction.
The results can make a person look years younger, but it does not stop the aging process from moving forward after the treatment. Skin care is important and sun protection is paramount.
