What is a Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty in New JerseyBlepharoplasty, also called eyelid surgery, is a surgical procedure that eliminates excess skin and fat from the eyelids to rejuvenate the eyes and produce a more youthful appearance.  Blepharoplasty can be performed as upper eyelid surgery, lower eyelid surgery, or full eyelid surgery. Upper eyelid surgery is ideal for patients who are experiencing sagging eyelids that interfere with their field of vision. Lower eyelid surgery is ideal for patients with bags under their eyes, who may have developed a “tired” appearance due to the effects of aging. Whatever your concerns may be, a blepharoplasty can rejuvenate the eyes and help you achieve a refreshed, youthful glow.

How Much Does a Blepharoplasty Cost?

The cost of your blepharoplasty treatment will vary depending on the extent of surgery necessary to produce your desired results. During your consultation, you and Dr. Volshteyn will discuss your cosmetic goals in order to determine the best approach to your eyelid surgery. Once your treatment plan is developed, we will be able to provide you with the cost of your treatment. What is the Blepharoplasty Procedure Like?

Blepharoplasty surgeries are performed under general anesthesia to keep patients safe and comfortable during the procedure. The incisions made for your blepharoplasty will depend on whether you are having it performed on your upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. In many cases, these incisions will be made within the natural contours of the eyelids, where they will be virtually invisible. Through these incisions, Dr. Volshteyn will remove excess skin and manipulate or remove fat to rejuvenate the eyes and produce the desired results. Then, the incisions will be closed and the treatment will be complete.

What is the Recovery Period Like After a Blepharoplasty?

After a blepharoplasty, patients may need to take a week or two off of work and other normal activities in order to rest and heal. During this time, it is common to experience bruising, swelling, blurred vision, and varying levels of discomfort. After the initial recovery period, patients will have to take extra care to avoid exercise and other strenuous activities for at least a month. Patients are encouraged to get as much rest as possible during this time in order to facilitate a speedy recovery.

Are the Results from a Blepharoplasty Permanent?

The blepharoplasty procedure eliminates excess fat and skin from the eyelids to produce long-lasting and even permanent results. However, the results from your blepharoplasty can still be affected by the natural aging process. The blepharoplasty surgery will significantly rejuvenate the eyes, but they will still continue to age normally. We encourage patients to maintain healthy diet and exercise habits in order to make their results last as long as possible.
