If you are experiencing discomfort or self-consciousness due to the size of the breasts, a breast reduction procedure may be a good solution. At Atlantic Surgical Associates, we offer this and other breast surgery procedures to residents of Edison, East Brunswick, West Long Branch, and the surrounding communities of New York and New Jersey.
What is a Breast Reduction?
A breast reduction is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin, fat, and tissue from the breasts to enhance their size and the proportions of the body. Having large breasts can make it difficult to exercise, wear certain clothes, and participate in some activities. In addition, they can also cause pain or discomfort in the neck, back, and shoulders. A breast reduction reduces the breasts to a size that is optimal for a patient’s body type, relieving discomfort and increasing their quality of life. Many patients experience a significant boost in confidence after their breast reduction, and enjoy many other physical and emotional benefits.
How Much Does a Breast Reduction Cost?
The cost of your breast reduction will vary depending on the extent of surgery necessary to produce your desired results. During your consultation, you and Dr. Volshteyn will discuss your cosmetic goals in order to determine the best approach to your breast reduction treatment. Once your treatment plan is developed, we will be able to provide you with the cost of your treatment. What is the Breast Reduction Procedure Like?
Breast reduction procedures are performed under general anesthesia to keep patients safe and comfortable during the procedure. The incisions made for your breast reduction will depend on the extent of treatment necessary to produce your desired results, and may include the following:
- An incision around the areola of the nipple
- An incision extending downward from the areola to the breast crease
- An incision along the breast crease
Through these incisions, Dr. Volshteyn will remove excess skin, tissue and fat, reshaping the breasts to produce the desired results. The nipples can also be repositioned and resized during this time, if necessary. Then, the incisions will be closed and the treatment will be complete.
What is the Recovery Period Like After a Breast Reduction Procedure?
After a breast reduction, patients may need to take about a week off of work and other normal activities in order to rest and heal. During this time, it is common to experience bruising, swelling, and varying levels of discomfort. After the initial recovery period, patients will have to take extra care to avoid exercise and other strenuous activities for at least a month. Patients are encouraged to get as much rest as possible during this time in order to facilitate a speedy recovery.
Are the Results from a Breast Reduction Permanent?
The results from your breast reduction will be permanent, but is important to note that a breast reduction surgery cannot prevent changes from developing in the breast in the future. You may still notice gradual changes in the breast due to the natural aging process, or if you experience fluctuations in weight. We encourage patients to maintain healthy diet and exercise habits in order to make their results last as long as possible.
