What is Gynecomastia?
Gynecomastia is a condition found in men that is characterized by a build-up of fatty tissue in the chest. This can cause both physical discomfort and emotional turmoil. When the condition remains unresponsive to diet and exercise efforts, surgery can be an effective solution. Gynecomastia surgery, also called male breast reduction, is a surgical procedure that eliminates breast tissue and excess fat from the chest to produce a firmer, more masculine appearance. Many patients feel that the results from gynecomastia surgery complement the rest of their figure, further enhancing their appearance.
How Much Does Gynecomastia Surgery Cost?
The cost of your gynecomastia surgery will vary depending on the extent of surgery necessary to produce your desired results. During your consultation, you and Dr. Volshteyn will discuss your cosmetic goals in order to determine the best approach to your male breast reduction procedure. Once your treatment plan is developed, we will be able to provide you with the cost of your treatment. What is the Gynecomastia Procedure Like?
Gynecomastia surgery is performed under general anesthesia to keep patients safe and comfortable during the procedure. The incisions made for your gynecomastia surgery will depend on the extent of treatment necessary to produce your desired results. In some cases, an incision will be made around the areola of the nipple. This results in scarring that blends in with the natural color of the nipples. In other cases, small incisions may be made along the natural contours of the chest. Through these incisions, Dr. Volshteyn will incorporate liposuction and excision techniques to remove fat and tissue. Once your desired results are achieved, the incisions will be closed and the treatment will be complete.
What is the Recovery Period Like After Gynecomastia Surgery?
After a male breast reduction, patients may need to take about a week off of work and other normal activities in order to rest and heal. During this time, it is common to experience bruising, swelling, and varying levels of discomfort. After the initial recovery period, patients will have to take extra care to avoid exercise and other strenuous activities for at least a month. Patients are encouraged to get as much rest as possible during this time in order to facilitate a speedy recovery.
Are the Results from Gynecomastia Surgery Permanent?
The results from your male breast reduction will be permanent, as fat and tissue are permanently removed from the chest. However, is important to note that gynecomastia surgery cannot prevent changes from developing in the chest due to future weight gain. We encourage patients to maintain healthy diet and exercise habits in order to make their results last as long as possible.
