What is an Otoplasty?
An otoplasty, commonly referred to as ear surgery, is a surgical procedure that can adjust the shape, size and position of the ears to address a patient’s cosmetic concerns. Ear surgery is often performed for patients who feel that their ears are too large or protrude too far from the head. Otoplasty can also be performed for ear reconstruction, restoring the shape and appearance of the ears after an injury or similar traumatic event. After the otoplasty procedure, patients enjoy improved facial balance and symmetry, as well as the increase in confidence that comes with it.
How Much Does an Otoplasty Cost?
The cost of your otoplasty treatment will vary depending on the extent of surgery necessary to produce your desired results. During your consultation, you and Dr. Volshteyn will discuss your cosmetic goals in order to determine the best approach to your ear surgery procedure. Once your treatment plan is developed, we will be able to provide you with the cost of your treatment. What is the Otoplasty Procedure Like?
Otoplasty surgeries are performed under general anesthesia to keep patients safe and comfortable during the procedure. During the procedure, incisions will be made either behind the ears or within the natural folds and contours of the ears. This results in scarring that is virtually invisible. Through these incisions, cartilage will be removed or otherwise manipulated to produce the desired results. Once your desired results are produced, the incisions will be closed and the treatment will be complete.
What is the Recovery Period Like After an Otoplasty?
After an ear surgery, patients may need to take a few days off of work and other normal activities in order to rest and heal. During this time, it is common to experience bruising, swelling, and varying levels of discomfort. After the initial recovery period, patients will have to take extra care to avoid sports and other activities that might damage the ears as they are healing. Patients will also have to wear a headband to secure and protect the ears until they are fully healed. Although the results from your otoplasty will be visible shortly after treatment, it can take several months for the full results to become visible.
Are the Results from an Otoplasty Permanent?
The ear surgery procedure produces permanent results, so patients can enjoy an improved appearance in the ears that lasts a lifetime. However, it is important that recovery instructions are followed very closely in order to ensure that the optimal results are achieved.
