The effects of aging are often overlooked when it comes to the male genitalia, but these effects can cause significant discomfort and self-consciousness. At Atlantic Surgical Associates, we offer scrotoplasty procedures to men living in New Brunswick, West Long Branch, Edison, and the nearby cities of New York and New Jersey.
What is a Scrotoplasty?
A scrotoplasty, also known as a SCROTAL LIFT, is a surgical procedure designed to decrease the size of scrotum, reduce pain and discomfort associated with activities of daily living and athletic activities as well as eliminate signs of aging and other cosmetic concerns in the scrotum. With age, after trauma, weight loss, previous hydrocele or varicocele surgery, the scrotum begins to sag and hang lower. In addition to becoming a source of self-consciousness, this can also create significant discomfort as the scrotum gets in the way or makes it uncomfortable to perform certain activities. The scrotoplasty is performed as a scrotal lift technique to lift the scrotumtighten the muscles, reduce pulling effect on the testes and associated pain and produce a more youthful genitalia.
How Much Does a Scrotoplasty Cost?
The cost of your scrotoplasty treatment will vary depending on the extent of surgery necessary to produce your desired results. During your consultation, you and Dr. Volshteyn will discuss your reconstructive and cosmetic goals in order to determine the best approach to your scrotal lift procedure. Once your treatment plan is developed, we will be able to provide you with the cost of your treatment. What is the Scrotoplasty Procedure Like?
Scrotoplasty surgeries are performed under local, sedation or general anesthesia to keep patients safe and comfortable during the procedure. The incisions made for your scrotoplasty will be along the raphe, or a longitudinal skin fold in the middle of the scrotum that extends from base of the penis toward the anal area, where they will be well hidden. Through these incisions, Dr. Volshteyn will trim excess skin, tighten the muscles, provide additional support to the testes, lifting the scrotum to a higher and more youthful position. After your desired results are achieved, the incisions will be closed with self absorbing sutures and the treatment will be complete.
What is the Recovery Period Like After a Scrotoplasty?
After a scrotoplasty procedure, patients may need to take about one week off of work and other normal activities in order to rest and heal. During this time, it is common to experience bruising, swelling, and varying levels of discomfort. After the initial recovery period, patients will have to take extra care to avoid exercise and other strenuous activities for at least a month. This includes sexual intercourse, which will need to be avoided to allow the tissue to fully heal. Patients are encouraged to get as much rest as possible during this time in order to facilitate a speedy recovery.
Are the Results from a Scrotoplasty Permanent?
The scrotoplasty procedure that Dr Volshteyn performs not only eliminates excess skin but also tightens and lifts underlying muscles to produce long-lasting and even permanent results. However, the results from your scrotoplasty can still be affected by the natural aging process, trauma and other factors. You can expect a significantly lifted and more youthful positioning of the scrotum, but gradual changes may develop over the years due to the aging process.
